The Turnbull Center is not a branch campus, but a vibrant entity in the state’s media center with roots at the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication (SOJC) in Eugene. Workshops and classes are taught by Eugene-based faculty, by Portland-based professionals, and by visitors from around the nation and the world.

The launch of the George S. Turnbull Portland Center in early 2006 was the realization of a vision that the SOJC has had for more than ten years.

The Turnbull Center is already an active member of the Portland Community:

• bringing journalists of note to the table for discussions of the important issues of the day;
• providing new professional development opportunities to Portland’s communication professionals;
• joining forces with other Portland organizations to host speakers and lectures;
• offering UO students a Senior Experience that provides them with internships in Oregon’s largest city combined with late-day classes; and
• planning a series of strategic communications workshops and a master’s in strategic communication.

We moved into our new space in the White Stag Block in Old Town Portland in 2008.  With four times the square footage, a state-of-the-art media studio, and access to UO Portland meeting facilities and event space, the possibilities for the Turnbull Center have increased exponentially
